The default PWM frequency for PWM 3, 9, 10, & 11, at least for the Diecimila running at 16 MHz, is 488 Hz. That’s OK for dimming LEDs where you’re depending on persistence of vision, but it’s much too low when you must filter it down to DC.

[Ben] built an AVR based Tetris game that uses a TV as the display. He linked his project in a comment from the AVR Tetris project featured last week. His work taps the power of his own tvText library to handle the composite video out. Using a TV takes all of the hardware work out of the equation, leaving just the composite jack and a few buttons to connect to the ATmega168 and its 20MHz clock. We’ve embedded the game play video after the break. It’s black and white but also clean and crisp.

[Ben] didn’t include music with his build but another commenter, [Eric], has started to work on that. We can’t help but think that they both should have tipped us off sooner about their projects.

This device plugs into a USB port and implements a USB HID keyboard. Instead of doing anything useful, it waits between 30 seconds and 8 minutes and sends the scancode for the Caps Lock key. This will toggle the Caps Lock status on or off. Since the operating system controls the LED on the keyboard, the Caps Lock light also toggles. This makes it appear the user has accidentally pressed the Caps Lock key...until it happens 20 or 30 times and they get suspicious. Then they might see the Caps Lock light turn on by itself. Next is a sequence of reboots, bashing the keyboard on the desk, clicking through the Control Panel, possibly even replacing the keyboard. Unless they notice the tiny little device sitting in one of the USB ports on the back of their computer, nothing will help.

Zutaten für 2 Portionen 250 g Penne oder Orecchiette 400 g Möhre(n) 1 große Zwiebel(n), groß 1 Zehe/n Knoblauch (gerne mehr) 1 Chilischote(n), rote, frisch 2 EL Öl ¼ Liter Gemüsebrühe 1 EL Erdnussbutter Salz 1 TL Ingwer, geriebenen Zubereitung Nudeln nach Packungsanweisung in reichlich Salzwasser bissfest kochen. Anschließend abgießen und gründlich abtropfen lassen. Möhren schälen und in Scheiben schneiden. Zwiebel und Knoblauch schälen und fein würfeln. Chilischote halbieren (am besten dazu Gummihandschuhe anziehen!), entkernen (wichtig!) und fein hacken. Möhren im heißen Öl scharf anbraten und dann bei mittlerer Hitze unter Rühren drei Minuten weiterdünsten. Zwiebel-, Knoblauch- und Chili-Würfel, sowie dem geriebenen Ingwer dazugeben und mitdünsten lassen. Die Möhren sollten aber "Biss" behalten. Brühe angießen, die Erdnussbutter dazugeben und unterrühren. Die Nudeln in die Sauce geben und nochmals kurz erwärmen. Dann sofort servieren!
